Ramsey

Ramsey is a town in the north of the Isle of Man. It is the second largest town on the island after Douglas. It has one of the biggest harbours on the island, and has a prominent derelict pier, called the Queen's Pier. It was formerly one of the main points of communication with Scotland. Ramsey is also known as 'Royal Ramsey' due to royal visits from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1847 followed by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1907.

The Albert Tower was built to commemorate the royal visit of Prince Albert on the 20th of September, 1847. Prince Albert climbed to the top of the hill where he viewed the surrounding town of Ramsey and the northern plain. The hill was renamed Albert Mount and a year later the tower's foundation was laid. The tower is made of granite and rises 45 feet (14 m) high, and stands as a landmark not only for the town of Ramsey, but also for the Isle of Man.

Laxey

Laxey is a village on the east coast of the Isle of Man. Its name derives from the Old Norse Laxa meaning 'Salmon River'.

The village lies on the A2, the main Douglas to Ramsey road. Laxey Glen is one of the The 17 National Manx Glens, with Dhoon Glen being located close by. The Raad ny Foillan long distance coastal footpath, opened in 1986, runs along the coast through the village.

Snaefell Mountain Railway

The Snaefell Mountain Railway is an electric mountain railway on the Isle of Man in Europe. It joins the town of Laxey with the summit of Snaefell, at 2,036 feet (620.6 m) above sea level the highest point on the island. It connects with the Manx Electric Railway (MER) in Laxey. The line is five miles (8 km) long, built to 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) gauge and uses a Fell Incline Railway System centre rail for braking on the steep gradients. It is electrified using overhead wires at 550 volts direct current, with bow collectors.

Snaefell

Snaefell is the highest mountain and the only summit higher than 2,000 feet (610 m) on the Isle of Man at 620 metres (2,034 ft) above sea level. The summit is crowned by a cafe and several communications masts.

Lord of Mann

The title Lord of Mann is used on the Isle of Man to refer to Queen who is the Island's Lord Proprietorand head of state.

Douglas

Douglas is the capital and largest town of the Isle of Man. It is located at the mouth of the River Douglas, and a sweeping bay of two miles. The River Douglas forms part of the town's harbour and main commercial port.

Douglas is home to the High Courts and the Isle of Man Government.

The town serves as the Island's main hub for business, finance, shipping, transport, shopping, and entertainment.

Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is a self governing British Crown Dependency, located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. The head of state is the Queen who holds the title of Lord of Mann. The Lord of Mann is represented by a Lieutenant Governor. The island is not part of the United Kingdom but its foreign relations, defence, and ultimate good governance are the responsibility of the Government of the United Kingdom.
